Limiting calorie intake does not help longevity and health

The National Institute on Aging has kept 121 monkeys for more than 20 years and conducted research and analysis. Rhesus macaques are physiologically close to humans and have a long lifespan, so scientists prefer to use them for long-term follow-up studies.

The researchers divided the rhesus monkeys into two groups and reduced the calorie intake of the group by 30% per day. After more than 20 years of limiting calories, it has been statistically found that regardless of sex of rhesus macaques and regardless of the age at which they begin to limit caloric intake, there is no statistically significant difference in mortality between the two groups of rhesus monkeys.

However, the study also shows that while limiting calorie intake does not make macaques live longer, it is still good for health. Limiting caloric intake causes them to lose weight, and cholesterol and triglyceride levels decrease. In addition, the onset of cancer, diabetes, and arthritis also shows a tendency to delay.
