Seven Methods to Improve Farm Fertilizer Efficiency

Adding superphosphate to manure is an effective way to enhance its nutrient value. Mix 20% superphosphate powder into the manure and stir it thoroughly. Then, pile it up and let it rest for over 20 days. This process helps reduce nitrogen loss due to evaporation, increases the available phosphorus content, and improves overall fertilizer efficiency. It’s a simple but powerful technique that makes organic waste more valuable for crops. Another method involves using ammonium bicarbonate with stacked manure. Cut crop stalks into small pieces and mix them with 0.5–1% ammonium bicarbonate and human fecal urine. Then, pile the mixture, cover it with mud, and seal it. After decomposition, this becomes a high-quality biological potassium fertilizer that can be used in the next growing season. For fresh cow dung, adding soy milk can boost its effectiveness. Mix 1.25 kg of soy milk into 50 kg of fresh cow dung by hand, then seal it and let it ferment for 3–6 days at around 25°C. Once ready, dilute it three times with water and use it as a top dressing. This method produces a fertilizer that is even more effective than ammonia-based fertilizers. To improve plant ash, you can add calcium phosphate. Mix 6 kg of plant ash with 10 liters of water and let it soak for 6 hours. Take the clear liquid and set it aside. Next, mix 2 kg of superphosphate powder with water, allow it to settle, and collect the filtrate. Combine both solutions and dilute with 100 kg of water to create a fertilizer that has the same effect as potassium dihydrogen phosphate. Using gypsum powder with human fecal urine is another useful technique. For every 50 kg of human waste, add 5 kg of cooked gypsum powder and 25 kg of water. Mix well and let it sit for 10 days under a sealed cover. This reduces nitrogen loss and enhances the fertilizer's effectiveness, making it more efficient for plants. When adding ferrous sulfate to human fecal urine, mix 300 grams of ferrous sulfate (also known as green vitriol) into 50 kg of human waste. This helps convert ammonium carbonate in the urine into stable ammonium sulfate, which is more beneficial for plant growth. Finally, adding superphosphate to human excrement can significantly improve its quality. Mix 2.5 kg of superphosphate into 50 kg of human waste and store it for 5–7 days. This not only prevents nitrogen loss but also greatly increases the fertilizer’s efficiency, making it a more sustainable option for farmers.
