Disinfecting turtle hatchlings plays a crucial role in improving their survival rate and preventing the spread of diseases. Traditionally, many farmers rely on chemical agents such as bleach, potassium permanganate, salt, and even antibiotics for this purpose. Before disinfection, it is essential to inspect the hatchlings, including any co-cultured fish, to identify potential pathogens. Based on the type of pathogen, different disinfectants are applied. However, this process is complex, time-consuming, and requires precise handling—any mistake can lead to adverse effects, making it challenging for farmers to manage effectively.
In contrast, using a vitamin C solution for disinfection offers both protective and antibacterial benefits for the skin of turtle hatchlings. The method is simple and easy to follow. To prepare the solution, take a plastic basin with a diameter of about one meter, add 8 kilograms of water, and dissolve 4 grams of vitamin C powder. Once fully dissolved, place 160 turtle hatchlings into the solution and let them soak for 10 minutes. Afterward, they can be safely stored or transferred. Farmers can easily measure the correct dosage based on the number of turtles being raised. Typically, one batch of the solution can disinfect up to 800 turtles, making it a cost-effective and safe alternative to traditional methods. This approach not only reduces the risk of side effects but also improves overall hygiene and health in turtle farming.
