Scientific name: Clivianobilis
Family: Amaryllidaceae, Genus: Clivia
Category: Perennial Evergreen Herb
Morphological Characteristics:
This plant has fleshy, fibrous roots and forms pseudobulbs at the base of its leaves. The leaves are sword-shaped, reaching up to 45 cm in length, and are alternately arranged with entire margins. The inflorescence is terminal, bearing 7 to 30 flowers, sometimes even more than 40. Each flower is stalked and arranged in an umbel at the top of the stem. The blooms are funnel-shaped, erect, and come in vibrant yellow or orange hues. Clivianobilis can flower throughout the year, with peak blooming occurring in spring and summer. The fruit matures around October.
Origin and Distribution:
Native to southern Africa, this species thrives in warm and temperate climates.
Growth Habits:
It prefers a warm environment with plenty of sunlight during winter and partial shade in summer. The soil should be loose, fertile, and well-drained. Temperatures below 5°C in winter or above 30°C in summer may hinder growth and flowering.
Propagation Methods:
Clivianobilis can be propagated through seed sowing or by using ramets (vegetative offsets).
In regions south of North China, it becomes dormant during the summer months. The ideal growing temperature ranges between 15°C and 25°C. It requires partial shade and should not be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. Waterlogging in the rhizosphere should be avoided.
Ornamental Uses:
Known for its elegant and solemn appearance, Clivianobilis features narrow, elongated leaves and short stems that emerge from the foliage. Its flowers are bright orange or yellow, often drooping and resembling a small, open barrel. This makes it a popular choice for potted plants during the Spring Festival, used to decorate hotels, offices, and homes.
The upright, tall foliage and towering, colorful blooms give the plant a striking presence. With its "standing and rising" form, it conveys a sense of dignity and solemnity, making it suitable for formal occasions and special events.
