The color of the leaves may turn yellow-green or pale green. In the later stages of the disease, the leaves take on a reddish-brown hue, and a grayish-white waxy coating (the ascospore layer of the pathogen) often appears on the surface. When humidity is high in the greenhouse, infected leaves may scorch, wilt, or rot, leading to premature leaf drop. Once the leaves on the shoots die, it can stimulate the growth of axillary buds, resulting in the formation of secondary shoots. Although new leaves that emerge are not usually affected, the shoots remain underdeveloped, and the foliage becomes dense and clustered.
2. Control Methods
(1) During the early stages of the disease, it's crucial to promptly remove and dispose of infected leaves outside the greenhouse to prevent further spread.
(2) If there is significant leaf drop due to the disease, apply additional fertilizer to help restore the plant's vitality and promote recovery.
(3) During the leaf emergence phase, if there are prolonged cloudy days, ensure proper ventilation in the greenhouse to reduce humidity and lower the risk of disease development.
(4) Before the temperature rises in the greenhouse, apply a 5 ppm lime sulfur solution. After the leaves have fully expanded or at the first sign of infection, use one of the following fungicides: 25% triadimefon diluted 1500 times, 70% mancozeb diluted 500 times, or 50% carbendazim diluted 800 times. Regular monitoring and timely application of these treatments can significantly reduce the impact of the disease and protect the overall health of the plants.
