I recently decided to give my daughter's bedroom a complete makeover, and one of the standout features I added was a scalloped wall. It’s such a simple yet impactful design element that can transform any room, especially a kid's space. I’ve always loved adding pops of color and character to her room, while keeping the rest of our home more neutral.
The wall where her bed is placed already had shiplap panels and vintage floral wallpaper, which made the rest of the room feel a bit plain. By incorporating a scalloped design, it really brought everything together and added a touch of elegance and charm. The end result? Absolutely stunning!
To create this look, I didn’t go out and buy any expensive stencils. Instead, I kept it simple and made my own using just a piece of cardstock and a bowl for tracing. Here’s how I did it:
1. First, I found a bowl that matched the size of scallop I wanted and traced it onto a piece of cardstock.
2. After cutting out the circle, I folded it in half and cut along the fold to create two identical half-circle templates. These became my stencils.
3. I then measured and marked a horizontal line 49 inches above the baseboard on the walls I wanted to decorate.
4. Using my homemade stencil, I simply traced along the line, adjusting the stencil around corners to maintain the pattern.
For painting, I used a small brush for the detailed work at the top of each scallop and a roller for filling in the larger areas. It was surprisingly straightforward and added so much depth and interest to the room.
Adding a painted scalloped wall is a fantastic way to create visual interest without overwhelming the space. It’s perfect for kids’ rooms because it can add a whimsical or playful touch depending on the colors you choose. Plus, it’s a great alternative to installing actual woodwork or other permanent fixtures.
This project wasn’t just about aesthetics—it also helped me break up the monotony of the walls. Now, the room feels completely transformed, and my daughter absolutely loves it. She often exclaims, “It’s so pretty!†whenever she enters her newly decorated space.
If you’re thinking about giving your room a similar makeover, don’t hesitate! It’s an easy and budget-friendly way to elevate any space. Stay tuned for the full reveal of my daughter’s room soon!
