When evaluating the fatness of rabbits, it's important to adjust their diet accordingly. For fatter rabbits, reduce the amount of feed and increase the proportion of roughage or raw materials. For thinner rabbits, add more nutrients by increasing the concentration of feed. Soaked soybeans or broken bean dregs mixed with water can also be given to help improve their condition.
Observing the rabbit’s feces is another key indicator of their health. If the feces are dry, increase the availability of drinking water. You can use an eye drop bottle to give them small amounts of water directly. On the other hand, if the feces are too wet, mix the feed with dry ingredients to reduce moisture. If diarrhea occurs, treat it promptly to avoid further complications.
Monitoring hunger and fullness is essential for maintaining a healthy feeding routine. It’s best to feed rabbits when they are about 80% full to prevent overeating, which can lead to indigestion. To support digestive health, you can add 1 to 2 kilograms of crushed dried orange peel per 100 kilograms of feed. This not only aids digestion but also helps prevent certain diseases.
Weather conditions also play a role in feeding practices. During cold seasons, green feed should be brought indoors first to warm up before feeding. Concentrate feeds should be mixed with boiling water and kneaded into a soft mass to slow down the cooling process. In summer, feeding cool, fresh, and watery grass is ideal. Avoid feeding leftover or warm grass, as it can cause discomfort or illness in rabbits.
