The biogas fermentation process is highly sensitive to temperature, which plays a crucial role in gas production. At lower temperatures, the fermentation process tends to be slower and less efficient. However, as the temperature increases within an optimal range, the rate of gas production also rises significantly. To address challenges associated with low-temperature conditions, specialized biogas fermentation agents can be used as inoculants. These agents, such as Gembio Biogas Fermentation Agents, are designed to enhance microbial activity and improve efficiency.
Gembio's formulation contains over 300 different bacterial species, with more than 200 million anaerobic bacteria per liter, of which about 50% are methanogens. These microorganisms reproduce rapidly under favorable conditions, often producing dozens or even hundreds of generations per minute. This rapid growth accelerates the breakdown of organic materials, leading to a significant increase in biogas yield. When using these agents as an inoculant, gas production can begin within 3–5 days, with large-scale gas output achieved by day 7—up to ten times faster than with traditional methods.
Additionally, the use of this type of fermentation agent helps reduce biogas loss during the fermentation process outside the digester. It also improves the overall gas yield per unit of raw material. To further enhance performance, adsorbent materials can be added. These materials increase the surface area available for microbial contact with the substrates, promoting better digestion. Moreover, the adsorption process itself generates heat, which can help raise the temperature inside the digester, creating a more favorable environment for methanogenic bacteria.
