Zhu Dinghong's dormancy maintenance points

The bulbs of Hippeastrum amurensis dormant in winter. The dormancy period is about 60 days. If the dormancy period is well maintained, it can germinate in the following year. Zhu Dinghong should pay attention to the following issues during the dormancy period:

1 strictly control watering.

As mentioned in the previous section, the amount of watering during the winter should be as small as possible to keep the bulbs from wilting. Otherwise, the bulbs will degenerate.

2 strictly control the room temperature.

That is, the indoor temperature is maintained at about 10 degrees. When the temperature is lower than 5 degrees, the bulbs are susceptible to freezing. When the humidity is higher than 15 degrees, it hinders the dormancy and affects the flowering in the following year.

3 The small bulbs branched off in pots and earths can be stored in sand with an indoor moisture content of about 10%.

By the end of December or early January, you can pour a penetrating water into the basin to wake it up out of hibernation. After a week, apply a thin superphosphate liquid fertilizer. At this time, the room temperature can be increased to about 16 degrees, so that it can promote Germination, early flowering.
