After fishing operations are completed, drain the pond water to a depth of about 20 cm, exposing the bottom. This helps in removing accumulated silt and debris, which can negatively affect water quality and fish health.
For disinfection, it's recommended to use appropriate chemicals such as lime or bleach. For dry pond disinfection, first drain the water to a depth of 10 cm. Then, dig several small pits at the bottom of the pond and spread 60 to 80 kg of quicklime per 667 square meters. Once the lime is evenly distributed, allow it to react with the soil. Alternatively, for full-water disinfection, apply 125 to 150 kg of lime per 667 square meters directly into the water. It’s best to perform this process about 10 days before introducing new fish species. Choose a sunny day with higher temperatures to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment.
Before stocking the pond with fish, it’s important to conduct a preliminary test. Take a sample of the pond water and place a few test fish in it for 12 to 24 hours. If the test fish show normal behavior and no signs of distress, it’s safe to proceed with stocking. This step helps ensure that the water conditions are suitable and free from harmful substances that could harm the fish. By following these steps carefully, you can create a healthy and productive environment for your fish.
