Pigs need different temperatures and spaces at different ages and growth stages. Therefore, pig houses are usually built with multiple rooms so that each age group of pigs has the best environment.
1. Mating a sow during the dry period of pregnancy, most of the gestation period (16 weeks) is kept in the ring or in the individual circle. These pens should be able to prevent feuding during the maternity phase. In order to improve breeding performance, boars and sows can be polycultured for sexual stimulation through sight, hearing, smell and touch.
2. Standard-sized litter pens (with farrowing boxes separated from sow feeding areas), such as smaller pigs, suitable for a one-bedroom system, large pigs should adopt a multi-room system. The farrowing house must have a good house sewerage system. Each shed needs a separate piglet replenishment area to ensure the comfort of the piglet without overheating the sow area.
3. Weaned piglets In smaller pig farms, weanling piglets are part of the farrowing house. However, in large-scale pig farms, there should be one or a few dedicated weaner pig houses to provide weaners with their favorite warm environment. Weaned piglets must be kept particularly clean to ensure their health. The traditional approach is to use adequate bedding and frequent cleaning of homes. Now, it is enough to use pigtails, holes, or mesh floors (without grass) to keep piglets clean.
4. Growing and finishing pigs use narrow elongated housing to help grow. A smaller pen (1.5 m 4.8 m) can house 20 growing pigs or 10 finishing pigs. Larger pens can keep larger groups that match them, but the length of the pens must be kept no less than 2.5 times the width. Sew the ground to keep pigs cleaner. If only some of the seams are used, a small amount of hoof damage may occur, but it can increase weight gain and save feed. If the whole enclosure partition is used to surround the three sides of the sleeping area and the defecation and urination areas are separated by open partitions or doors, pigs can also develop good bowel habits.
