Happy pig raising happy pig

In the remote ethnic minority areas of Yunnan, raising pigs has become a key way for families to boost their income. In recent years, with growing concerns about the quality and safety of agricultural products, ensuring the safety of meat from small-scale households and promoting green livestock farming have become top priorities. The Yunnan provincial government and local enterprises are actively exploring innovative methods to achieve this goal. One such method is the "fermentation bed" system, which offers pigs a clean and healthy living environment. In early September, in Xiangyun County, where the weather remains hot, traditional pigsties often face issues like bad odors, fly infestations, and unsanitary conditions. However, Li Rongfa’s pigsty in Yulong Village stands out as a refreshing exception. His 16 pigs live in a tidy space with a 50-cm thick layer of fermented bedding made from sawdust, straw, rice husks, and other organic materials mixed with probiotics. This system allows pig waste to decompose quickly without any odor, and the pigs even eat the partially fermented litter, improving digestion and reducing disease risks. "This is the ecological pig farming method we promote," said Qing Liwen, CEO of Kunming Bairier Feed Technology. "It not only improves the pigs’ health but also ensures high-quality pork from the start." The fermentation bed significantly reduces the need for daily cleaning, creating a cleaner and more comfortable living space for the animals. Pigs can play freely, roll in the bedding, and enjoy a stress-free environment that contributes to their overall well-being. Another benefit of this approach is the use of bioactive feed enriched with Chinese herbs. This feed helps break down cellulose and fiber, making it easier for pigs to digest. As a result, they produce less waste and emit fewer odors. Farmers like Liu Xiaofen have seen real financial benefits: saving up to 80% on medication costs and 20% on feed, leading to an extra 100 yuan per pig annually. To ensure widespread adoption, the company focuses on education and community building. Scientists and technicians were sent into villages to teach farmers about proper feeding, disease prevention, and breeding techniques. Regular public lectures and hands-on training help farmers understand and embrace these new methods. The company also creates a close economic partnership with local farmers. If farmers raise pigs according to the company's standards and meet quality requirements, the company buys the pigs at a price 1 yuan higher than the market rate. This incentivizes compliance and ensures consistent product quality. In Liuchang Village, each group of six households forms a breeding unit, with one household acting as a benchmark to monitor others. If any farmer fails to meet the standards, the entire group loses the recycling benefit. To support this system, the company sets up service departments in each village, responsible for technical support, sales, and management. These departments ensure that farmers follow the guidelines, and if they fail, they lose access to the feed package, which costs 160 yuan—helping cover potential losses. With technological support and economic incentives, farmers feel secure and motivated. Happy pigs lead to better returns, proving that sustainable and ethical farming can be both profitable and beneficial for all involved.
