Study says abortion increases heart disease risk by 40%

Release date: 2010-12-06

Abortion and heart disease seem to have nothing to say. However, according to foreign media reports on December 2, a new study published in the online edition of Heart magazine on the same day found that abortion once increased the risk of heart disease in women by 40%. Women who have had a miscarriage more than twice have a four-fold higher risk of heart disease than other women.
The new study was completed by scientists at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. The new study involved more than 11,500 women and focused on the association between pregnancy failure and myocardial infarction, heart disease and stroke. The results showed that nearly a quarter of women had at least one abortion, and another 2% had a stillbirth. Of the 2,876 women who had a miscarriage, 69 had more than 3 abortions.
Scientists have found that women who have had a miscarriage more than three times have a nine-fold increased risk of heart disease, and that these women are five times more likely to develop heart disease, even if they take into account factors such as weight and smoking. The researchers also found that women who had had at least one stillbirth had a 3.5% increased risk of heart disease.
The researchers also found that women with spontaneous abortion had a higher risk of myocardial infarction in the future. Habitual abortion and stillbirth are important signals of myocardial infarction and should be considered as cardiovascular risk factors and preventive measures.
