Deciduous trees, up to 15 meters. Bark dark brown, exfoliated; young branches pubescent. Double-pinnate compound leaves, 25-50 cm long, with special aroma; 10-22 leaflets, opposite, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 8-15 cm long, glabrous or with veins below Shu Mao. Panicle terminal; aromatic flowers; calyx short; petals white, ovate-oblong; staminodes 5, alternate with developing stamens. Capsule oval, 1.5-2.5 cm long; seeds oval, with long membranous wings at one end. Flowering from May to June and fruiting from August.
